Tuesday, September 07, 2010 - 21:24 - jrigdon
To promote awareness of the whispering symptoms of ovarian cancer, the SC Ovarian Cancer Foundation Riverbanks Region Chapter will release hundreds of butterflies as part of September’s National Ovarian Cancer Month. Butterflies are available for purchase for $25 each in memory or honor of loved ones with ovarian cancer and female related diseases. Come enjoy butterflies, music and inspirational speakers.
Native American custom
If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and
whisper that wish to it.
Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly cannot reveal the wish to
anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all.
In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit
always grants the wish.
So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom,
the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.
This year we also have available butterfly prints uniquely designed and donated by artist Lucius Jumper to commeorate this event
